Hailee Steinfeld per il western dei Coen, "True Grit", remake de "il Grinta". Classe 1996, ruolo difficile, interpretato da Kim Darby nel 1969. Farà strada.
Mila Kunis, bomba sexy, fa da contraltare a Natalie Portman. E dopo la segnalazione a Venezia, fa breccia nel cuore del sindacato attori e guadagna una nomination inattesa. nata nel 1986, ucraina naturalizzata, film esplosivo. La Kunis è lanciata.
Hilary Swank, due Oscar, due vittorie su Annette Bening. E il dualismo continua, con un'inattesa nomination per "Convinction", in cui affianca Sam Rockwell, nel ruolo di Betty Anne Waters, veramente esistita. E il biopic, l'elemento famigliare, la difesa giuridica ne fanno un'outsider. Non vincerà, ma favorirà la Portman contro la Bening. Forse.
John Hawkes è la mina vagante, un nome che mai ci si sarebbe aspettati. Dare del filo da torcere a Christian Bale e Geoffrey Rush è impossibile, ma "Winter's bone" gli ha regalato una visibilità meritata. Anche il ruolo, violento ma positivo, potrebbe aiutare. E dalle serie Tv, il passo è lungo (ma anche breve visto la qualità dell'attore).
Robert Duvall riesce ancora a conquistare e sconfigge un grande attore come Bill Murray, suo co-protagonista, in quanto a visibilità. "Get Low" è un film atipico e indipendente con un gran cast, ma soprattutto offre a Duvall un ruolo che mette insieme forza interpretativa matura e scrittura letteraria del personaggio. Non vincerà, ma già brilla di suo.
